Durian - king of fruits

Durian is king of the fruits, I believe many people love the taste of it but the smell is not very friendly. For me personally, I love it!

There are so many different varieties of Durian which can be found across Southeast Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and possibly a few other countries. In Thailand it mainly grows in the South and East.

Back there in my home town, Krabi, we have a few Mohn-Thong Durian tree growing at the back of our garden. Each tree will grow at least 30 fruits every year during fruits season July till October. But it’s not very easy to look after them, after we grow the young Durian plant (1 year old), we will have to take very good care of it. It takes between 5 and 7 years before you see the first flowers of Durian.Durian - king of fruits

If you are in a local market in Thailand and try to pick up some Durian, I would suggest to buy Mohn-Thong because it has just the right taste, not too sweet and the seeds are very small, you will enjoy the meat of Durian. By the way, the Durian fruit is very difficult to cut, so if you buy the whole Durian you should ask the seller to cut if for you, they are always happy to help. (Be aware you are not usually allowed to bring them in to your hotel).
